Abdel’s strong focus on education began over a decade ago when he worked as a counselor and teacher, seeing first-hand the challenges young people face beyond the classroom. Today, he continues to support students by providing financial assistance to single mothers at the Saint Ignatius Adult Education Program and to primary and high school students from low-income families in San Ignacio and Santa Elena.

Abdel Cowo is the Deputy Mayor of San Ignacio, Belize, and a town council member. He works closely with the people and is loved by the community for his respect, care, and honesty. Abdel listens to what people have to say, values their ideas, and treats everyone fairly. He is also the Vice President of Membership for Toastmasters Belize and the Managing Director of Attorney Assistant Belize, roles that reflect his commitment to leadership and professional development. By focusing on the needs of the community and being open and honest, he has earned trust and strong connections across San Ignacio and Santa Elena.
This dedication comes from his long history in management and long-term planning, having worked at the Insurance Corporation of Belize, Unicomer Group, and various LLCs. He sees people where they are and helps them achieve proven, long-term goals. By focusing on the needs of the community and being open and honest, he has earned trust and strong connections across San Ignacio and Santa Elena.

In 2021, Abdel first ran for San Ignacio Town Councilor but lost on March 3, securing 3,084 votes. He ran again and, on March 6, 2024, won the election with 3,867 votes. The Elections and Boundaries Commission confirmed that Abdel Cowo had been elected Town Councilor for San Ignacio and Santa Elena, representing the United Democratic Party (UDP).
Abdel has always combined long-term ambition with approachable optimism and charisma. Since taking office, he has been on the ground with the people, not just making a difference but seeing it firsthand. Listening and speaking directly to the community gives him the best insight into their needs.
